God has a specific plan and purpose for each one of us in the earth. However, God’s perfect plan for us is not automatically fulfilled. Understanding the process and battle you will experience to fulfil your destiny, is the single most important factor in achieving your God given purpose in the earth.
1 Timothy 1:18 “Timothy, my son, here are my instructions for you, based on the prophetic words spoken about you earlier. May they help you fight and war well in the Lord’s battles. Holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith.”
This scripture tells us clearly that we will have to wage war with the prophetic words over our lives in order to see them fulfilled. We also have to hold unto faith in the process or our faith can be shipwrecked as scripture states. The primary reason people fail to achieve their destiny is not realizing there is a battle and therefore falling as a result of the battle. The battle is 90% in our minds and must be won if we ever want to achieve our destiny.
If a believer does not realize there is a process and a battle to go through, then when they face challenges or obstacles they will quit the race. Even if a believer realizes the enemy will not hand them their destiny on a plate, if they do not gain the required knowledge to actually win the battle, they will still fall short.
Joseph’s Battle For Destiny
The life of Joseph perfectly illustrates the key aspects of the destiny journey we too will experience. Like Joseph, God’s destiny and plan for our lives starts as a prophetic promise for the future. Joseph received prophetic dreams as a teenager that took over 13 years to be fulfilled. Which illustrates another key aspect of our journey to destiny – it is only achieved over a period of time and not the same moment we receive the promise. That alone will liberate and strengthen believers when they realize that God has a long-term plan for our often short-term challenges. Joseph knew this key.
Genesis 50:20 “Joseph said: You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”
So why does there have to be a delay from when we receive the promise to fulfilment? This is all down to God’s divine process of preparation. When we first receive a promise, just like when Joseph first received his dreams, we are not ready to actually fulfil the role yet. Joseph was not ready to rule Egypt when he was sharing his dreams of rulership with his family. We too must humbly submit to God’s divine process of preparation, which will mean we are ready when we get to His desired destiny for us.
Purpose of The Process – Character Development
What is God trying to build during the process? The primary aim is character and integrity. God’s desire is for more believers to be used mightily in the earth. However, very few allow themselves to go through God’s hard process of preparation in order to mature our character and integrity to the level where we can be trusted with great influence and power like Joseph. Most will simply not pay the necessary price of obedience, discipline, sacrifice and hard tests to get to the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Many end up settling for the standard Christian life instead of allowing the process of refining to become real vessels of honor that are used mightily in the earth. Few attain this level due to few being willing to pay the price.
During the process of preparation and character building, God will subject us to tests, wilderness experiences and weakness exposure. This is all designed by the Lord to help us resolve deep issues, fleshly desires and areas the enemy will exploit badly if we get to a high place of influence unprepared.
Some of the key areas many are tested, particularly if the Lord has a significant calling in the earth, include Pride, Power & Morality. Pride as we know led to the very fall of the enemy and is a huge issue within the make up of man. Self-righteousness and pride can be very difficult to address in believers as it is easy to see everything through a lens of our own self-importance. We often have to ask for God’s grace to bring humility and become teachable and learn the ways of God as none of us have arrived yet.
The bible tells us about how King Saul fell at his highest moment as king because of pride. 1 Samuel 15:17 “Samuel said, “Though you were once little in your own sight, weren’t you made the head of the tribes of Israel? Yahweh anointed you king over Israel” King Saul started in humility but strayed off into pride and it cost him everything. All have to address this in some shape or form simply because it is one of the biggest flaws in our old sinful nature.
The test of power is also a huge one and many times has taken people astray from God’s call on their life. A believer needs to be ready to be trusted with power and influence but many fail in this area before they even get to that position of influence.
The Morality Test
The test of morality is a major one and is one of the areas that highlights the dangerous consequences of not being fully prepared for destiny. Today you hear of many leaders within the body of Christ falling in this particular area regarding morality and marital unfaithfulness. We see with Joseph he had to flee from Potiphar’s wife. Joseph had to pass this test on the way to becoming ruler of Egypt. If he failed that test he would never be ready for rulership.
Many leaders are ill-prepared and fail this test. The enemy brings temptations and situations across their path and because they have not dealt with the secret sins and weaknesses, eventually they fall and then the rest of us read about it online. However, if a believer is honest before God about such weaknesses, His grace can address these issues in the secret before it becomes public knowledge and widespread shame for the body of Christ.
These examples alone emphasize just how important it is that we allow the Lord to bring us through the necessary tests and preparation for destiny. There are many other challenges, such as betrayal, family challenges, rejection and persecution. If we do not understand the battle and the process we can easily faint in the midst of these. Settle in your heart and mind that you are in God’s divine process no matter what the opposition. Keep praying until God fully prepares you and ends the waiting process and will remove the delays of the enemy also.
Destiny Fulfilled – Faithfulness & Timings of God
The key is understanding that you are in a process of preparation. There will come a time when God decides you are ready, just as He did with Joseph when he was promoted through Pharaoh. However, we have to trust God in the process and pray in accordance with the prophetic promises we have received.
Psalm 105:19 “Until the time came for the word of God to be fulfilled, the LORD tested Joseph’s character. Then Pharaoh sent for him and set him free; the ruler of the nation opened his prison door. Joseph was put in charge of all the king’s household; he became ruler over all the king’s possessions.” If we are faithful to the process, God will open the door to destiny for us also. What areas do you know God has tested you in the past or areas of weakness that you need to submit to Him? The sooner you allow these issues to be resolved through His grace, the sooner you will arrive at your destiny – whether the enemy likes it or not!
