Until yesterday, there were only three states that did not require proof of legal residence to get a driver’s license. Those states are New Mexico, Utah and Washington. However, Illinois lawmakers passed a bill yesterday allowing illegal aliens to get driver’s licenses in their state.
Proponents of the new Illinois law argue that everyone is safer when illegal aliens have driver’s licenses because they are required to know the laws and pass a driving test. However, the facts show allowing illegal aliens to drive is a deadly mistake that dramatically increases the number of accidents, drunk drivers, and fatalities.
A study of State Police reports on Virginia’s Eastern Shore from 2002 to 2004 revealed an alarming 25% of the accidents were caused by illegal aliens, even though illegal aliens represented only 5% of the population. In other words, illegal aliens are 5 times more likely than legal citizens to cause a fatal auto accident.
That same study also revealed more disturbing facts about illegal aliens:
- 93% of illegal aliens had phony out-of-state license tags
- 75% had no auto insurance
- 32.4% of all DUI charges during that time were Hispanic, which is 6 times greater than their portion of the population
So the results of the Eastern Shore study show accidents could be reduced by 25% and drunk drivers reduced by 32% just by getting the illegal aliens off the roads. Far from making anyone safer, the new law in Illinois is very likely to result in more auto accidents, which includes more fatal auto accidents, and more drunk drivers. Way to go Illinois!
Every 24 hours 13 U.S. citizens will lose their lives, killed by illegal alien drunk drivers. That adds up to over 4,700 innocent American citizens killed each year. By comparison, only 323 Americans were killed in the past ten years by semi-automatic rifles. Yet the Obama administration and state lawmakers across the country are now obsessed with banning sales of semi-automatic weapons while doing nothing to stop the slaughter of innocent citizens killed by illegal immigrants on our highways. In some cases, like the new law passed in Illinois, lawmakers are actually promoting more death on the highways.
According to an analysis by the New York Times, about 4.5 million illegal aliens in the United States regularly drive on our highways without drivers licenses, or insurance, or even the ability to read road signs written in English.
The following story from KOAT, which is the ABC television affiliate in Albuquerque NM, is just one example of the fatal car accidents caused by illegal aliens on our highways:
On June 10, 2012, Aileen Smith and her husband Zach were on the way from Colorado Springs to San Diego for their baby shower — even though it was three months before her due date of September 5, they had already named their unborn son Demetri.
But when Ramon Hernandez sped onto Interstate 25 and crashed into their car, he shattered the Smith family forever. Aileen was taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe, where doctors performed a C-section in an attempt to save the baby. The injuries to the unborn child were too severe, however; he died from massive head injuries just minutes after being delivered. The Smiths never saw him alive. Aileen recalled, “There was nothing they could do. I woke up from surgery and was reaching out asking for my son, and the nurse leaned over and told me that he had passed.” Aileen held him briefly, as did her husband Zach, saying a prayer for Demetri before handing his little body over to the Office of the Medical Investigator. “We buried Demetri two days before my 26th birthday,” she said. “It’s just an incredibly lonely feeling,” Aileen explained, “You know, you can feel so supported by all your friends and family, and yet just feel so alone inside because that thing you were hoping for is gone.”
A state police dash-cam video recorded the tragic scene of the accident. It was a car crash that officials said could have been prevented. Court records show Ramon Hernandez had four prior DWI convictions. Hernandez admitted he had had “a few beers” when he plowed into pregnant Aileen Smith’s car. Investigators said Hernandez had not had a driver’s license for more than a decade.
Ramon Hernandez is also an illegal alien.
How many more tragedies must be endured before we will stop this madness and get the illegal aliens off of our highways? How many more lives will we allow to be destroyed before we begin to enforce our immigration laws and protect our borders?
Our current immigration system punishes those who try to enter the country legally and rewards those who enter illegally. Those who play by the rules are slapped with large fees and long waiting periods while those who break the rules are rewarded with nearly all of the same benefits as citizens.
An estimated 11.5 million illegal immigrants have broken our laws by crossing our borders illegally. Some estimates put that number closer to 20 million. Either way, the numbers are large enough to drain billions of dollars from our national wealth as illegal immigrants enroll their children in our public school systems, admit themselves for treatment in our hospitals even though they often cannot pay for the care they get, and fill one third of our prison cells, all without paying any income taxes.
American citizens are paying the price, not only in the form of higher taxes and higher health insurance premiums but also with increased risks of being murdered, having their home invaded, being sexually violated, robbed, and killed in car accidents. The number of illegal immigrants committing murders, sexual crimes, drug related crimes, drunk driving violations and causing auto accidents is disproportionately greater than their percentage of the population. The facts indicate their rights and privileges should be decreased, not increased.
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency deported 409,849 illegal aliens in 2012 and over half of them, 225,390, had been convicted of felonies. This includes 1,215 illegal aliens convicted of homicide, 5,557 convicted of sexual offenses, 40,448 convicted of drug related crimes, and 36,166 convicted for drunk driving. Of course, those numbers are just the tip of the iceberg because those are only the ones who were both convicted and deported.
The real numbers are much larger if you include the illegal aliens convicted but not deported or guilty but not yet convicted. The numbers get much larger again if you count total crimes rather than criminals because each criminal typically commits multiple crimes. A 2005 study by the Government Accountability Office shows the average convicted illegal alien had committed 13 crimes. That study also found 36% of illegal immigrants who were incarcerated had been arrested five times or more.
But thanks to our politically correct culture, the only hard numbers available are for the criminals deported by ICE. The number of crimes committed by illegal aliens who are still in the country is much harder to estimate because race is often unavailable in crime reports due to anti-discrimination laws.
To see more extensive coverage of how illegal immigrants are hurting America, there is an excellent article available called “The Dark Side of Illegal Immigration.”
WHAT IS THE ANSWER?
America is a nation of immigrants. Legal immigration has been an important part of our history and should continue to be part of our future. However, there is a big difference between legal and illegal immigration.
Legal immigrants abide by our laws upon entering our country and agree to continue abiding by our laws after the get here. Illegal immigrants break our laws upon entering our country and many of them show no respect for our laws after they get here.
For these reasons, legal immigrants are a blessing to our country while illegal immigrants are a curse. No country allows illegal immigrants to stay. Even Mexico deports all illegal immigrants. Mexicans are hypocrites when they act outraged when Americans try to enforce our laws the same way they enforce their laws.
The problems of illegal immigration, which were almost unheard of a few decades ago, are now growing at an alarming rate. Meanwhile lawmakers are either doing nothing about it or in some cases making it worse. With more new laws like the one just passed in Illinois, America is moving full speed in the wrong direction. What will our country look like in another ten or twenty years?
When our leaders are more interested in pandering to Hispanic voters than serving and protecting the people they are sworn to represent, then the hard facts are disregarded and become irrelevant. Ignoring the facts, our leaders act like fools by claiming to solve problems when in fact they are making it worse.
But there is good news. The illegal immigration problem can be fixed. The answer is found in the Bible.
God’s word provides us with specific instructions on how to receive His blessings and specific warnings of curses that come on us when we go our own way in disobedience to His commandments. The same blessings and curses that apply to individuals also apply to nations. One of the curses mentioned in Deuteronomy 28 is God will cause foreigners to be raised up among you until they eventually rule over you.
The foreigner who is among you shall rise above you higher and higher, but you will go down lower and lower. He shall lend to you, but you will not lend to him; he shall be the head, and you will be the tail. So all these curses shall come on you and pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you would not obey the LORD your God by keeping His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you. (Deuteronomy 28:43-45)
Ancient Israel did not heed these warnings and they suffered the consequences, being ruled by the Babylonians and later by the Romans. The United States is not yet being ruled by foreigners, but we are fast approaching the time when the illegal immigrants will be dictating to the legal citizens. Just as the curse said would happen, the head is fast becoming the tail.
The number of illegal immigrants who have crossed our borders is already so large that no politician is willing to do anything that would offend them for fear of losing Hispanic support. As a result, laws that were put in place to protect us are no longer being enforced and new laws are getting passed that are sure to exacerbate the problems.
America was founded by people of faith, people who risked their lives for the right to worship God. The dedication and obedience of our founders brought the blessings of God, ultimately causing the United States to become the most powerful and the wealthiest nation in the world. But those blessings are conditional upon a right relationship with God. If we want to continue to receive the blessings, we must turn away from our sins and obey God’s commandments.
Illegal immigration has become a God-sized problem. It is already too big to be solved by anyone else. If we will humble ourselves and turn to God, He will turn it around just as He promised us He would do in 2nd Chronicles.
If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2nd Chronicles 7:13-14)
The answer is clear. There is nothing complicated about it. It does not even require everyone to participate. All that is required is for those who believe to obey this scripture by humbling themselves before God, repenting from their sins, praying and seeking the face of God. If believers do their part, God will surely do what He promised. He will heal our land.
