A French hospital union boss has said a health pass will not be enough to curb another wave of Covid-19, and urged the government to make vaccination compulsory for everyone.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe no longer have the luxury of taking half-measures,\u201d<\/em> Frederic Valletoux, the head of the Hospital Federation of France (FHF) and the mayor of Fontainebleau, told Le Journal du Dimanche newspaper.<\/p>\n \u201cEverywhere, the indicators are going up again. The context of the epidemic shows us the limits of intermediate measures.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Pointing to the \u201cunprecedented speed of the fourth wave\u201d<\/em> of infections, Valletoux said the government should \u201cassume the course of compulsory [measures] along with voluntary [ones].\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n He added that the recently introduced pass had \u201cworked in the short term, but will not be enough to achieve a real collective immunity.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The pass serves as proof that the holder has been fully vaccinated, has tested negative for Covid-19 in the past 48 hours, or has recovered from the virus. People in France must show such passes to enter crowded venues and, from August 9, will have to present them when visiting caf\u00e9s and restaurants, and before boarding planes and inter-city trains.<\/p>\n The introduction of passes, along with the mandatory vaccination of health workers, has sparked debates and protests, with some describing the measures as discriminatory.<\/p>\n At the same time, the National Academy of Medicine and National Academy of Pharmacy called for a mandatory vaccination of the general population and advised that the health pass be replaced with a vaccination pass.<\/p>\n
