Ten Virgins Waiting on Jesus the Bride Groom – part 1 of 4
As you read the Old Testament you see how God revealed Himself through personal relationships to individual people (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, and the prophets). The Bible tells a story of people who were attracted to God and how God drew near to them. Jacob clung to God and would not let go of Him, while his brother Esau was not so interested in the spiritual promises handed down from his grandfather Abraham (Genesis 25).
To form a foundation for our understanding of who God is, His nature, and what he desires, he gave us His law. From it, we know that God is holy, truthful, and does what is right, and wants us to do the same. But at the perfect point in history, He showed us that at His core God is love and that He wanted to bring us back to Himself at any cost. He was willing to pay our penalty for breaking His law and to break the curse effect of our sin.
From the history of the Old Testament, we see that the first basis of having a relationship with God didn’t produce many people who had a deep desire to know Him personally. The children of Israel were at times afraid to hear his voice.” Many people of every era will someday make Heaven their home, but they may not be what the Bible calls the Bride of Christ – I get this from Matthew 25: 1-13, the parable of the 10 virgins.
An important element of this parable is that it is about virgins, those who are waiting to be married. – that’s us. It is about a major celebration where they must wait for the bridegroom. There are two aspects of the meaning of the word bridegroom. The one I see having the focus here is “A man who is about to be married.” This represents Jesus at this very point in time.
bridegroom (noun) – A man who is about to be married or has recently been married. wordnik.com
The Spirit of Jesus is the Holy Spirit. We are waiting for Jesus in the form of the Spirit of Jesus. It should not surprise us that this greatest of all revivals would be written about in the Bible. Waiting without disbelief because of delay does something in us and may also do something in the heart of God that “awakens” as it were His will to deal with our enemies in unprecedented ways. Thus, this revival is something that must be waited for. Many of us are in a birthing chamber right now and God has instructed us to take it slow. I reference two prophetic words: I heard the Lord say “I am lighting a new fire in your belly! make room, go slow and allow Me to fan the flame” – by Lana Vawser and Pioneers and trailblazers, it’s time to shut the door! by Nate Johnston.
