John 16:12 “There is so much more I want to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.” Jesus has begun to tell this generation things that most believers simply cannot bear. It is vital to remember Jesus said this to His 12 disciples, who had walked with Him, seen His miracles and the impossible. Yet there were some truths that were so deep and unimaginable that even they could not handle it. They walked by sight, not faith and saw Jesus face to face. They saw Him walk on water, multiply food, raise the dead and yet there were truths He could not reveal to them as they could not handle it.
So where does that leave this generation, if even the disciples could not bear some things? Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Jesus is going to reveal it anyway, but only to those who are hungry and have open hearts. This is a biblical principle seen in Matthew 13:11 “Jesus replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of Heaven has been given to you, but not to them.” If you do not want to be one of “them” then please open your heart and read on. The Lord has released some keys to help us avoid being one of “them.”
I urge all believers to patiently read this and cry out to God for an open heart. Many that do not open their hearts are going to walk away from Jesus in the years ahead. Believers need to open their hearts to God’s ways and truth, instead of long-held beliefs, that we will soon find are not in the scripture at all. I will present several scriptures that will turn our thinking upside down, simply by rightly dividing the Word of truth, by interpreting scripture by using scripture. This is to give believers a sample of where God is taking this generation. Jesus is asking some hard questions to this generation and presenting hard truths that most are not ready for, this word will help people prepare.
BOOK OF DANIEL – END-TIME KNOWLEDGE RELEASED
Daniel 12:4 “But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.” Many have presumed this knowledge to be purely man’s knowledge such as technology or even scientific. While that will be included, the primary focus of Daniel’s instruction is to seal the book that contains spiritual realities, revelation and truth for the End Time. There is specific knowledge and revelation that is reserved only for our day. Some of it is going to be so huge and paradigm-shifting, that even the strongest believer will struggle to believe it is God.
Many will have to re-read their bibles as Jesus Himself turns the tables on our long-held beliefs and religious mindsets. Please be ready, or offense is guaranteed ,and many will walk away from Jesus and lose everything. This is way beyond “signs, wonders, and miracles” or even strange manifestations. Believers can dismiss those things and still walk in some degree with the Lord. However, the focus here is Jesus revealing deep truths that most believers simply cannot bear. Many in this generation fear deception or error more than they desire truth. Jesus is going to test that imbalance in our hearts, and many will be offended by the truth He reveals.
We have all emphasized the “Great Falling Away” from the truth to deception. Mass numbers have followed false gospels, false prophets, and movements that are steeped in error. However, believers need to be aware of another Great Falling Away because of “offense at the truth.” It is already happening around the world. An open heart is the only remedy to avoid offense at the levels of truth and revelation Jesus is releasing in this generation. We will look at the “Contradiction Principle” and “Peter Principle” later, which are the 2 biggest keys in this generation. Few believers will be able to walk in the full truth and a close relationship with God, without fully embracing those 2 biblical principles given by the Lord for this generation.
BREAKING OUT OF OUR LIMITED MINDSETS & UNDERSTANDING
Job 11:7 “Can you solve the mysteries of God? Can you discover everything about the Almighty?” God is a God of mystery, and this generation is going to see that more than any other. Therefore, it is vital that we remind ourselves of some biblical mysteries to help us move beyond our personal or even denominational boxes. This word is completely scriptural; however, it will take believers beyond their comfort zones and stretch them. This is necessary to help prepare believers’ hearts to handle the depths of truth He is releasing.
Therefore, it is necessary to start by giving some scriptures and ask questions that will test our hearts. God gives grace to the humble, and we need it desperately at this time. We will soon realize that God is beyond our understanding, and we need His grace at this pivotal time.
Hebrews 11:5 “By faith Enoch did not die” – how does a believer explain that Enoch did not die, and where is Enoch now then?
2 Kings 2:11 “As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind.” – do you believe a person can be taken alive up to Heaven?
Matthew 16:28 “And I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom.” – do you really believe that some of Jesus’ disciples are still alive today like Jesus said?
Numbers 21:8 “Then the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and mount it on a pole. When anyone who is bitten looks at it, he will live.” – Would you discern such a strange command as being God and obey it?
Those scriptures are hard to explain and demonstrate the mysterious and unlimited nature of God. The reality is some believers struggle to believe these scriptures. However, they are completely true even if incomprehensible. Some believers will try to repackage or explain these scriptures to fit back into our religious boxes so that they are not too impossible to accept. However, the Lord looks for the humble heart that recognizes they need God to even believe His word, never mind understand it.
GREAT FALLING AWAY – AT THE TRUTH NOT ERROR
Keeping in mind this is the generation that has specific knowledge reserved for it, let us look at something that is rarely discussed in Christian circles. The Great Falling Away because of the Truth. It is crucial we understand the ways of God, and one of His ways is testing our hearts. Jesus will test our hearts to see if we will trust and believe Him, and sometimes He uses hard teachings and truths. In John 6, many disciples walk away from Jesus, not because of error – but because they were offended by the truth. The Lord is revealing deep truths in this generation, and believers have to prepare their hearts, or they will be offended and reject the very truth of God.
John 6:60 “On hearing it, many of His disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?” From this time many of His disciples turned back and no longer followed him. “Do you want to leave too?” Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, “LORD, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” This was Jesus teaching truth and spiritual realities – yet they walked away as they had no reference for it. This shows us there are some truths that can be so deep and beyond our understanding that we can be tempted to reject it and walk away.
Once again, let’s remember these were disciples that walked away from Jesus. Not unbelievers or Pharisees. So if any of us think we are beyond being offended by the truth, we need to think again. 1 Corinthians 10:12 “Those that think they are standing firm and secure in faith, be careful that you do not fall.” Therefore, it is vital that all believers take this onboard and allow the Holy Spirit to soften their hearts.
BEWARE – EVEN THE DEVIL CAN QUOTE SCRIPTURE
This is a generation where believers will quote a scripture to reinforce their particular perspective. This is regardless of whether or not the view that is being reinforced is actually true. Few believers have really meditated on the fact that the devil quoted scripture. Even more so that he quoted scripture to the Living Word Himself – Jesus. That is really worth contemplating. The devil thought he could manipulate The Word made flesh, for his own gain. Therefore, simply quoting a scripture is not sufficient, particularly in this generation. If the devil can quote scripture, then anyone can; that is worth pondering.
Scripture can be quoted out of context like the devil did. It can also have a different meaning or different dispensational application. For example, in the New Covenant, we no longer adhere to “an eye for an eye” or sacrifice animals; however, it was fully relevant and necessary for the Old Testament saints. The purpose of saying this is to help believers in the simplest way prepare for where the Lord is taking the church. Scriptures, we thought we understood, will be systematically corrected by accurately dividing the Word of truth. Believers should prepare their hearts, as we are all going to have to let go of old beliefs that the Word itself will correct. The church for many years has incorrectly divided the Word of truth, but Jesus is changing that.
JESUS IS ASKING QUESTIONS THAT WE HAVE NO ANSWER TO
Mark 11:33 “So the Pharisees answered Jesus, “We do not know.” Jesus said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.” Jesus is asking this generation questions we have no answer to. He tests our hearts like this to see how much we want Him and how deep we want to go. Out of His love, He will ask this generation questions so hard that it will put us in corners where our only option is to surrender to the truth with an open heart. However, if we have hard hearts, we will respond in offense and legalism like the Pharisees and completely miss God. Similar to the devil, the Pharisees and religious people of Jesus’ day were very quick to quote the law, but very slow to obey and had hearts of stone.
Mark 7:5 “So the Pharisees and scribes questioned Jesus: “Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders? Instead, they eat with defiled hands.” We must do all we can to avoid this kind of stone-hard heart, and our response to Jesus revealing deep truths will reveal any hardness of heart. Jesus is revealing things so deep we will struggle to bear it. We must be ready for the meat of the word. 1 Corinthians 3:2 “I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.”
RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD OF TRUTH – SEEING CLEARLY
2 Timothy 2:15 “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately and rightly dividing the word of truth.” As previously stated, simply quoting a scripture to reinforce a particular perspective will not be adequate in this generation. Why? Jesus Himself is bringing correction to long-held beliefs and scriptures we have thought and taught. Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” His ways are much higher, and we need to adjust to this.
Acts 5:39 “You may even find yourselves fighting against God.” Unless we adjust, we will find ourselves in opposition to God and His Word. There are many scriptures that are believed and quoted by believers, that we have either missed or misinterpreted. Ephesians 1:17 “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better.” We need the Holy Spirit to give us wisdom and revelation to know Him and His Word better and clearer. This generation will understand the scripture better and see things we have never seen before. The Word of God will be rightly handled and divided and old beliefs removed and confusion eradicated. Next, we will look at one of the most important principles of our generation and why we cannot just quote any scripture to suit our perspective.
CONTRADICTION PRINCIPLE – INVITATION TO GOD’S SECRETS
This is one of the most important principles believers could ever learn. In order to illustrate this principle, it is worth highlighting why those disciples responded like this in John 6:60 “On hearing it, many of His disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?” The reason it was a hard teaching is because it says in Deuteronomy 12:23 “Never consume the blood, for the blood is the life, and you must not consume the lifeblood with the meat.” Jesus had said to them in John 6:53 “I tell you the Truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.” Not only was it cannibalism in the eyes of the disciples, it also contradicted the law. This is why they walked away and could not accept it.
Consequently, that was a huge test for the disciples who had walked with Him and seen His miracles. It is vital to note that Jesus did not run after them and beg them to come back – that is a stern warning for our generation. We must be ready with open hearts for hard-to-accept truths and “apparent contradictions,” or we too could walk away. Many believers will not realize it and will immediately become defensive if someone mentions there are contradictions in the bible. However, here is a reality few believers will want to admit – there are “apparent contradictions” in the bible.
Before people start to worry, these are only “apparent” contradictions not actual contradictions. There are scriptures that on the surface appear to disagree. Just like the above scenario in John 6 regarding the blood. There is always an answer and revelation behind the apparent contradiction. These disciples were not willing to go beyond the apparent contradiction to seek the truth. Jesus will allow believers with uninterested, religiously set hearts to walk away in offense at the truth. I urge every believer to really let that sink in. It is a frightening reality that we are all susceptible to, unless we have permanently soft and open hearts.
Here is the “Contradiction Principle:” If 2 scriptures appear to contradict, they are simply an invitation to seek God’s deeper truths, meaning or secrets. There is an explanation and deeper reason for the apparent contradiction. Other scriptures will also help point to the answer. However, without seeking God for the necessary insight and understanding, the truth is we can be left with unanswerable differences that atheists gladly use to discredit us. Countless believers have experienced this problem, as apologetics cannot always answer biblical mysteries and deeper truths. When we seek insight and rightly divide the Word of truth, any apparent contradictions will no longer contradict. One major one will be presented later to help us understand and emphasize the desperate need for open hearts.
Since the beginning, God’s priority has been and is to develop a deep relationship with man. One of the primary ways He does this is by hiding mysteries or we could say “apparent contradictions” waiting for the hungry and willing heart to seek Him for answers. Most do not seek Him for these truths and revelations. Through His grace, this generation will be put in situations where they have no choice but to seek God’s deeper meaning. If they do not, they will be left with biblically unsustainable beliefs. Next, we will look at a major contradiction, that will leave believers with a significant choice to make. The choice between sticking to old beliefs that the scripture itself proves is incorrect or softening their heart to actually seek God for the true answer.
MOUNT TRANSFIGURATION – JESUS PRACTICED NECROMANCY?
This is the Acid Test of this generation. This will take believers so far out of their comfort zone that they are forced to leave behind lifelong beliefs or be left with completely unanswerable questions and contradictions. May God take believers slowly through this so many can arrive at the truth. As this is one of the hardest teachings the body of Christ has ever received and some will not be able to bear the truth.
Leviticus 20:27 “There shall be none among you that shall be a medium or necromancer or they shall be put to death.” Necromancy means a person who communicates with the dead, it was punishable by death as scripture says. Believers have long held to the fact that communicating with the dead is evil, wrong and forbidden. Which is correct as that scripture says. However, we read this about Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration. Matthew 17:2-3 “Jesus was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.”
As we can see we have an “apparent contradiction” but this one has huge implications. So let us examine the scriptures and rightly divide the Word of truth so that this “apparent contradiction” can be addressed. The Word of God tells us in Matthew 5:17 “Jesus is the fulfillment of the Law” and also James 2:10 “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet breaks even one command, they are guilty of breaking all of it.”
Keeping in mind all those scriptures – how could Jesus have spoken to Moses and Elijah – dead people? These are people who had passed from this life thousands of years earlier. If Jesus spoke to dead people, that means He broke the law as per Leviticus 20:27, and that means He broke them all according to James 2:10. See we have an “apparent contradiction” and a scriptural problem bigger than most believers have surely faced. Jesus is our perfect sinless Savior, so what is really going on here? Would Jesus ever practice or model any way of life that was evil, or wrong and break any command and risk not being our perfect Savior? I hope believers grasp the magnitude of this “apparent contradiction.”
Most Christians believe that it is evil, wrong, and breaks the commands of God to communicate with the dead. However, by persisting with this belief, we also have to insist that Jesus broke this command and did something wrong. There is no way around this, as we cannot say: “It was Jesus; He can do anything.” All that states is that “It was Jesus; He can break a command.” This is just one of the corners this generation will be put in to test our hearts and bring us out of long-held beliefs that are not actually scriptural. There is no contradiction at all here, and the answer will take believers so far out of their personal mindsets that some will struggle to accept the truth. However, if believers do not seek God for an answer, they are left with Jesus practicing necromancy, which is obviously not a sustainable belief.
At the Lord’s guidance, the answer will not be revealed here, as this is a test of hunger for believer’s hearts. The open heart is ready to receive any truth and sees an invitation to eagerly seek God for an absolutely vital revelation. Others may not seek at all and will struggle to embrace an answer that has huge implications for this generation. It is up to each believer which one they are and if they ever find out the true answer.
The truth and implications of the answer to this are too offensive to most believers, so it cannot be revealed here. It is better for a believer to go and seek God and get the answer from God, and then they can receive it better. The answer is in Luke 20:38, but believers will have to seek God for revelation. The answer to this is the acid test of our generation. As believers should always remember that Jesus is our perfect example, and we can follow His footsteps. Without knowing the answer to this, believers are not only left with the unsustainable belief that Jesus practiced necromancy, but are left totally unprepared for what God has reserved for this generation.
PETER PRINCIPLE – LORD IF IT IS YOU
Peter perfectly demonstrates the heart posture and exemplifies the response needed to Jesus and His unusual ways and deep truths in this generation. Matthew 14:28 “Lord, IF it is you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” Peter only wanted confirmation that it was Jesus and then he embraced the impossible and strange. This was despite Jesus appearing as a ghost and doing the impossible by walking on water – appearing in a previously never seen way to them. Peter’s focus was not on the unexplainable; his heart was so open and desperate for the depths of God, he only needed confirmation it was Jesus.
The key is found in Hebrews 12:2 “Fix your eyes upon Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” Once Peter began to look at the waves and the strange and unexplainable thing he was doing instead of Jesus, he began to sink. This is an important lesson for all believers. However, the main focus is Peter’s courageous belief that as long as it is truly Jesus he is ready to step into the unknown. That is why he was permitted to do the impossible – he is the template of success in this generation.
Peter’s sustained heart posture of “Lord as long as it is you” kept him from walking away from Jesus along with the other disciples in John 6. Peter’s response to the hard teaching can help believers overcome. John 6:67-68 “Do you want to leave Me too?” Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” The 12 disciples would have found the teaching hard also – the difference is they had soft and open hearts that believed and trusted Jesus no matter how hard the teaching was. This is pivotal for this generation as multitudes are going to walk away from the level of revelation and truth God is releasing. However, if we trust and believe Jesus even when we do not understand His ways, we will never walk away from His truth. The heart posture of “Lord IF it is You” is the Peter Principle that will ensure believers never walk away.
ARE YOU READY TO RECEIVE HIS SECRETS OR STAY OUTSIDE?
Mark 4:11”When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around Him asked Him about the parables. He told them, “The secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables”
How will Jesus speak to you in this generation, kingdom secrets or parables? Your heart posture determines that. Will you prepare your heart for His deep secrets and friendship with the Lord? Or is it acceptable to be one of those on the outside, that is only spoken to in parables. All of us have a choice. If there is no openness and hunger for more, a believer stays at the basic level and receives minimal reward as the Parable of The Talents warns us. This also leaves a believer at risk of being offended at the truth, which could even make them walk away from the Lord like we saw in John 6.
2 Chronicles 16:9 “For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.” The Lord is watching the heart reaction of every believer right now. The humble and open heart has just been prepared for some of the greatest revelations and truths in history. I hope and pray many are now ready to receive, rather than reject His revelations in our generation.
Matthew 7:6 “Don’t waste what is holy on people who are unholy. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.” It is fitting to finish with an important relational principle Jesus gave us. He said do not give what is precious to those who are not worthy or interested or they will waste it. If we think Jesus will trust us with His pearls and precious truths when our hearts are hard and religious, we are mistaken. It is only through openness and a hunger to have a deep relationship with the Lord do we receive such treasures. I hope this stirs us all, lest we settle for becoming those described in this verse that Jesus will not reveal His relational secrets to.
