Emboldened by the re-election of President Barack Obama, the United Nations has unanimously approved plans to renegotiate their Global Arms Trade Treaty. Their hope is to gain control over the worldwide trading of conventional weapons with regulations imposed on every nation, including the United States.
On December 24 2012, the United Nations approved by a vote of 133-0, with 17 abstentions, a resolution to renegotiate the Global Arms Trade Treaty in March, 2013. Proponents argue the treaty would not impact domestic gun regulation, but that claim sounds very hard to believe because the treaty would require all countries to establish national regulations that must conform to UN mandates to control the transfer of conventional arms and to regulate arms dealers. Opponents see the treaty as a serious threat to the Constitutional rights of Americans to bear arms.
According to Wayne LaPierre, NRA Executive Vice President, described his recent visit to the United Nations, “I am sitting there and I am looking out and there I see the Sudan, I see Cuba, and I see Syria, and I’m thinking, ‘You gotta be kidding me!’ You’re going to come into our country and eliminate our Constitutional right to own a firearm? Dream on! We Americans are not going to let that happen.”
The NRA warns that the United Nations is accountable to no one and their definition of small arms trade is so broad that no one would be immune to their controls.
According to Tom Moore of the Defense Small Arms Advisory Council, “When something is so broad it creates a lot of opportunities for mischief. The dictators and the squalid, tin-pot despots have just as much of a say in the process as we do.”
Tony Bernardo of the Canadian Institute for Legislative Action warns, “Absolutely no one is safe from the United Nations. They are looking at registration, tracing, and marking systems. What you will wind up with is gun control on an International level specifically designed to be used against honest, law abiding people.”
The NRA’s Chief Lobbyist, Christ W. Cox, says, “This is a very serious threat. The day will come when they finalize a treaty that will never go away.”
According to Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton, “President Obama sees in the UN arms trade treaties a way to get around the American Congress when the American voters don’t go the way he wants, and in that sense I think he is post-American.”
The following video warns that the United Nations feels more empowered than ever to get its’ Global Arms Trade Treaty passed because President Obama has dramatically reversed United States policy and has signed on as a partner in the UN’s mission to trample on our freedoms. This video was published by the National Rifle Association (NRA) on August 31, 2012.
