Bitcoin enthusiasts are flocking to Puerto Rico, thanks to tax breaks and an island lifestyle
The US territory of Puerto Rico has become the new hot destination for cryptocurrency entrepreneurs as it has crypto-friendly policies, including huge tax breaks to those who spend at least 183 days on the island each year.
US citizens can hold on to their American passports while not having to pay any taxes on capital gains.
“That’s where all my friends are. I don’t have one friend left in New York, and maybe the pandemic accelerated this, but every single one of them has moved to Puerto Rico,” crypto entrepreneur and investor David Johnston told CNBC. He moved his family and his company to the island last year.
Johnston recalled his first impression of the small island territory: “I said, ‘Wow, okay, I get it.’” He explained that “The island has three million people … This is big enough to build a tech center.”
According to Johnston, his whole office building is filling up with start-ups and crypto companies.
The big draw of the island has reportedly been prompted by the so-called Act 60, which offers significant tax savings to qualifying residents.
In the US, investors pay as much as 37% on short-term capital gains and up to 20% on long-term gains, which applies to crypto and other assets held for over a year. One of the tax breaks under Act 60 drops that tax obligation down to zero if certain qualifications are met.
There is also a major tax incentive for business owners to set down roots in Puerto Rico. Mainland companies are subject to a 21% federal corporate tax, plus a state tax, which varies.
However, not everyone was happy about the influx of new residents to the island. Locals were annoyed by the fact that they don’t qualify for the capital gains tax exemption, which is designed for non-Puerto Ricans. They also questioned the government’s idea about the tax breaks helping to create jobs, and attract more cash into the local economy. The flood of the crypto rich into Puerto Rico has also helped to drive up real estate prices.

OFF TOPIC: I had a weird dream last night, one that made me wake up and think about it all day.
My husband and I were in a home that appeared “Gothic” in nature (not my or his style, at all). It was present day. I was in the master bedroom watching television. To the right of the television was a painting that had the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. My attention was drawn to this painting. The first Three Horsemen were no longer in the painting AND I watched as the Fourth Horsemen was in the painting moving OUT of the painting. This freaked me out, watching as the painting came “Alive”. I screamed for my husband to come and see. He came in and when I went to show him the blank canvass, the painting was as if nothing had ever happened – all Four Horsemen were in their proper place on this canvass. He looked at me as if I were touched in the head and walked out. So, I went back to bed and began watching television again. A few seconds later the painting drew my attention AGAIN to the disappearance of the Three Horsemen and the Fourth one exiting out of the painting. I sat straight up, then bolted out of bed and the master bedroom yelling for my husband once again. Before I left the bedroom, I noticed that there was a golden-colored scarf hanging on just one side of the blank canvass. I could still see the entire canvass, and I did not know what the golden-colored scarf meant. So, I talked my husband back into the master bedroom to show him the blank canvass. When we looked up at the painting, this time the golden-colored scarf was now covering the entire canvass! It reminded of an old-fashioned hearse where the windows are covered by velveteen-type curtains. My husband looked at me with concern this time. He knew I did not cover up the painting. I am short, barely over five feet. This painting was hung at least two feet above my head. There is no chair, no stool and the bed is nowhere close to the painting. He believed me, I saw it in his face. The dream ended.
All day, I could not get this dream out of my head. Of course, I looked at Revelation Chapter 6. What I felt in the dream is the first Three Horsemen are already on the loose in the world, at this time. The Fourth Horseman is being let loose now or in the very near, near future. My husband and I, in real time, disagree about the Book of Revelation. I believe that God is unleashing and allowing events to take place now, in today’s world. My husband thinks that I am doom and gloom and thinks that every generation believes that the Book of Revelation unfolded during their generation. So, I think my husband, in the dream, represents people who have their ears and eyes closed to what is unfolding in the world. The golden-colored scarf, I do not know what it represents – especially the color – when it first appears. The next time I see it, when it is completely covering the painting, I had the feeling that the curtain closing means nobody can stop what is coming. The hearse type of feel means that there will be great death following as it says in Revelation 6 (1/4 of the world’s population).
I could absolutely be wrong with my interpretation. I’ve put it out here because it was just so off-putting and odd. If someone else has an interpretation, please comment. Thank you for reading and sorry for putting it here, I just don’t know where else to put it.

Hi MattNZ – I agree with what you said about “What time it is.” and “the LORD giving me a glimpse of what is being unleashed”. Not always the best at interpretation, so I really appreciate you commenting as it does shine more light on what the LORD shows me every so often. I just started reading again tonight the Book of Revelation & remembered the words ‘golden sash’.
Revelation 1:13 – and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a “golden sash” around his chest.

Hi Sarah- Thank you for commenting, I always learn something from individuals who post additional information. “Put on the whole armour of God…” Ephesians 6:11-18 come to mind when I read this comment. One, I personally must take to heart and become more diligent in my reading and study of His word. I read every day, however, I believe I am being prompted to go deeper in His word and become a more mature (I heard that yesterday, too) Christian. Hard to admit, yet, when something smacks you in the face…

About your dream, I believe the antichrist (white horse) is soon to arise. We have been seeing the price of food rising, food disappearing off the shelves of grocery stores, a world wide Famine is coming (black horse) and looks like War (red horse) might possibly break out in Russia & the Ukraine.
You mentioned that when the Golden Sash was across the picture frame that it looked like a herse / death (Pale horse). The Pale Horse is definitely out prowling the earth seeking who he may devour. The last figure I had seen a few weeks ago for the number of deaths with these deadly Vaccines, was just around the 3 million mark.
They’re calling this a ‘Dark Winter’ & they’re expecting millions of deaths. I’ve had dreams of family & friends dying.. from vaccines.
There was such a specific emphasis on the Fourth Horseman in my dream, Sarah. A fourth part of the Earth (according to Revelation 6) killed with the sword, hunger, death and the beasts of the Earth. What you mentioned is here.
By the way, I’m sorry about the dreams you are having, it must be upsetting. My mother and stepfather took the three shots, as well. Now, my mother is losing weight as if she has cancer (testing done, no results yet). So hard to accept, to watch people deteriorate in front of you. Sure, I am not alone with this scenario. My heart goes to anyone else who is in this boat. It didn’t have to happen.

loriq, when some translations write “killed with…death,” that doesn’t really make sense. ESV translates it better with, “kill with… pestilence.”

Hi Marcio – I normally use the KJV translation. Sometimes, I think the waters get muddied with so many translations circulating about. I always think, “Who is right?”, “Who is wrong?”, “Why this translation?”, “Where is it coming from?”, and so on and so on. This is nothing negative towards you, I am glad you commented. I would imagine this is why I hear other Christians and Pastors say, “To search a thing out”. To dig deeper into His word.

The KJV is a good translation, but not perfect. It heavily relies on the Masoretic Jewish text that was written hundreds of years after Christ. So there are some major deletions because they are too Messianic and point to Jesus. The New Testament quotes of the OT are about 80% from the Greek Septuagint Text, or a common source to the Septuagint. Some of these Messianic quotes don’t appear in the KJV, but do in translations like the ESV. The point is, do in depth word search. After all, the original Scriptures weren’t written in Old English. Revelation 1:12-20 – “Dressed for the occasion”
** Golden sash ***: Jesus was wearing an accessory. He was wearing a golden sash. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines sash as: “a band worn about the waist or over one shoulder and used as a dress accessory or the emblem of an honorary or military order”. We notice here that the sash gives the scene a military tone. In Greek the word for sash is zōnēn, and in Hebrew the word is abnet. In the Old Testament, we see man of rank (1 Samuel 18:4) and priests (Leviticus 8:7) wearing a sash. Exodus 28:2, 4 says that this garment piece shows that “dignity and honor” or ”glory and beauty” is given to the person wearing it. In Isaiah 22:20-23 we read how the Lord will dress Eliakim in a robe and sash, and give him “the key to the house of David”. “What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open”. This means the Lord would give Eliakim full authority over Jerusalem and Judah as the king’s representative. The text says Eliakim will be “like a father” to God’s people, and “he will become a seat of honor for the house of his father”. In Isaiah 11, we read a prophecy about Jesus talking about the descendent of Jesse. Verse 5 explains that “righteousness will be the belt about His loins, and faithfulness the belt about his waist”. Both in the vision of Daniel 10 and Revelation 1, Jesus is wearing a golden sash. In the original Hebrew text, Daniel describes it as it being “pure”. It is the utmost belt or sash one could possibly wear. Christ’s golden sash is above all other man-made sashes ever worn by anyone. We can now understand the meaning of the robe and golden sash in Revelation 1:13 as an indication of Christ’s absolute authority over His people.

Things that make you go Hmmmmm… This would not surprise me, not one bit. Weather modification and weather wars under way around the world.
