“Lord, this is a very dark place. I don’t understand why you would put me here. It is uncomfortable and stretching me too far. I cannot see any light in here. I keep hoping for a change. I keep thinking “Why me!” Will I ever come out of here? I am tired of this dark place. I am trying find the way out myself to no avail. Have you just left me here? I can see nothing else but this cold darkness and complete silence.”
This is His reply!
“If I should tear open a cocoon too soon to set it free, the creature’s wings will be severely underdeveloped. This is because the very act of struggling to leave the cocoon strengthens the butterfly’s wings, preparing it for flight.”
We too shall have times of transition and metamorphosis, though the remedy is not unlike the butterfly’s, but very much the same. If we try escaping God’s cocoon before He’s done transforming us, we risk undermining and delaying what He’s trying to do with us. When gold goes into the fire, it still comes out gold!!
I know it might feel dark right now, unpleasant and a very tight place, but just relax!
“For I am in the midst of this,” saith the Lord right now to your discouraged heart.
In the stillness, you will hear Him . In the intense waiting, your character will be formed. If you wait upon God and allow Him to release you from the cocoon when He is ready, you will be stronger and prepared to emerge in ways you never could have if you would have left the cocoon too soon.
I am still confident of this; I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. – Psalm 27:13-14
Going through something similar. Gnawing on it during the drive home from work an hour ago. I so needed to hear this, thank you Jesus and thank you Dana.
“In the stillness, you will hear Him . In the intense waiting, your character will be formed.” I agree, Dana. It is so very hard to try to outrun the Lord and do it ourselves, isn’t it? Your post reminded me of this Scripture: “Be still, and know that I am God;” (Ps. 46:10a). How STRENGTHENING to KNOW that He is God.
