Pursuing the Knowledge of God

“So let us know, let us press on to know the Lord. His going forth is as certain as the dawn; and He will come to us like the rain, like the spring rain watering the earth.” (Hosea 6:3 NASB)

In this scripture, the Hebrew word radaph is translated here as “press”, which literally means to chase or pursue. That is what we must do to know the Lord. We must make the effort to chase and pursue the knowledge of God. It will not fall on us without any effort on our part.

There is a common misconception that God is the one who mysteriously chooses who He will reveal Himself to. That is a deception and contrary to His word. We see some people seem to know God very well and also know God’s plan for their life, but we wrongly assume they have these things because they are something special chosen by God. There is nothing special about them. The reason they know Him and know His plans is because they hungered for Him and sought Him and chased Him and pursued Him until they found Him. If we do not know Him and do not know His plans for our life it is because we have not hungered for Him and have not sought Him as much as we should have.

We tend to give ourselves a free pass by assuming it is not our fault and we are not to blame for our current circumstances. It is so much easier for us to blame it all on God, but He is not the one to blame. It is because we are filled with pride that we give ourselves a free pass and assume we are not to blame. It is because we are filled with pride that we assume God is the one who is in error while we are right and treated unfairly. But the truth is we are responsible. We are the ones who have failed and fallen short when it comes to seeking God, pursuing Him, and chasing Him until we have found Him.

The knowledge of God is available to all who seek him. It is not His fault that some people seek Him diligently while other people choose not to. We are not waiting on God to reveal Himself, but He is waiting on us to seek Him. Our lack of knowledge of Him is due to our lack of hunger for Him, which causes us not to seek Him like we should. In the same way, the reason why we do not know the plan of God for our lives like we should is because we have not hungered enough to seek Him and find out what His plan for us is. The knowledge of the plan of God has been available to us all along because He put the knowledge on the inside of each one of us because He lives on the inside of us, on the inside of all who have received Jesus Christ, but we have not hungered for His plan enough to seek it. That is why we have remained in the dark for so long regarding these things.

His ways are not as mysterious as the world often claims. His going forth is as certain as the dawn. His ways can be known by man. He can be known. To those who know Him and know His ways he can even be somewhat predictable, because He is as certain as the dawn. For those who chase Him and pursue Him, He will come to them like the rain, like the spring rain watering the earth.

So now that we know these things, let us set aside every hindrance that holds us back and every distraction that stands in our way from pursuing God, from seeking the knowledge of God, and the plans that God has for our lives. Let us stir up a holy hunger in our hearts for the knowledge of Him. Let us be hungry and diligent to seek until we find. Let us not be satisfied until we truly know God and all that He has planned and purposed for our lives.
