Parents Beware: Skyrim Video Game is Pornographic

The latest version of the popular role playing video game, called Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls V, is a lot different from what parents might think.

This fifth version of this game, produced by Bethesda Software, is “much improved” from previous versions in terms of artistic quality and graphics. The game allows players to choose from a wide variety of characters and enter a medieval world where they can go anywhere and do just about anything they want.

About a month ago I went to the mall with my 21 year old son to do some Christmas shopping. My wife and I no longer try to guess what our kids want for Christmas. We now just go with them to the mall and let them pick out the items they want. After we buy them, we wrap them up and put them under the Christmas tree and make them wait until Christmas to open them. It works great because they tend to forget exactly what they picked out but they always like it when they see it again.

So my son and I went to Gamestop and he picked out a couple of new Xbox games. While we were there I asked him what was the latest and greatest role playing game available. Years earlier he and I used to play one of the first versions of the Elder Scrolls, which was called Oblivion. That was always the game that intrigued me the most because I was so impressed with the vastness of it. There seemed to be no limits to what a player could do. I was amazed that anyone could build such an elaborate game. At least with a sports game like football, basketball, or car racing it seems like there are only so many possibilities and all of the action is limited to the field or court or track. But with this game, the possibilities went on and on. Skyrim players enter this magical land where they can choose from a long list of characters, then select from a long list of clothing and weapons, then go wherever they want, talk to anyone they want (and the other characters talk back too), and do just about anything they want. It really is amazing.

So my son pointed out to me the newest version, Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls V. It was not one of the games he wanted so we just looked at it but did not buy it.

Then yesterday, before I knew anything more about it, the thought came to me that I might like to play Skyrim myself. Since my son is away from home attending college in another state, I thought perhaps I could play this game because it is designed specifically for one player. My son left his old Xbox 360 here at home because he has a newer one at college. So I wouldn’t have to buy the Xbox, just the game. So with this in mind, I decided to check out the reviews for Skyrim on Amazon.com.

There were tons of reviews and it achieved an overall score of 4.5 out of 5 stars, not too bad! I have learned the value of doing my homework before making a purchase. After reading a few reviews I felt I needed to see more so I visited the official website at elderscrolls.com/skyrim. I still felt I needed to see more so I went to YouTube and watched some video clips. That was when I finally got educated about what was in this game.

I have never played Skyrim so I don’t know which features are included out of the box and which features are added later by installing downloadable modules, called “mods”, which enable players to customize the game in seemingly unlimited ways. My guess is the game out of the box version does not include total nudity or sex but the mods remove those limits. A visitor to this site commented below to clarify that the mods only work on the PC or Mac versions of the game (thank you for clarifying that). So based on that comment it appears the Xbox and Playstation versions do not contain any nudity or pornography.

With the right mods installed on the PC or Mac versions, you can make all the girls walk around nude everywhere they go. Players can engage their characters in conversations with totally nude girls with amazingly perfect bodies! Not only that, your character can have sex with these virtual girls too! Several video clips on YouTube show how the player’s character can enjoy all sorts of sexual activities with these beautiful girls.

There is one module called “Bathing Beauties,” in which players enter a lodge filled with beautiful girls and a public bath in the center. If the player wants, the girls will walk around totally nude and even do a dance for them if asked.

Other YouTube videos show how players can chose beautiful girls as their character and then chose to wear no clothes as they walk around a town naked. So the whole time they play they are watching a totally nude girl walking around. Other websites show screen shots of very graphic sexual acts and video clips of a nude girl masturbating, all from “playing” Skyrim. Again, I am assuming these things are only possible by downloading and installing additional mods, but that does not sound like it would be hard to do.

I was already thinking this game was probably a bad idea for me, but I was mainly thinking that because of the time I would be wasting on it. I had no idea Skyrim showed nude women and women performing sexual acts! Here is a sample of an edited screen shot to illustrate the graphic details of nude girls walking around town.

So I am writing this to warn other parents about this game. If you have kids who want to play Skyrim on the PC or Mac, be advised the mods are easy to download and take things to a whole new level. Granted, Skyrim is clearly rated Mature on the label, and clearly identifies that it contains sexual themes. But there are different levels of sexual themes. The levels contained in this game go way beyond what I would have guessed was intended by the warning label.

The Mature rating means it is for ages 17 and older, but how many 17 year old boys can handle a fantasy world of beautiful nude women who are willing to engage in sexual acts with their character? Personally, I know this game would have been way too much for me to handle at that age. Now that I know what is in it I would never want my kids to have it and would not allow them to bring it into my home.

In my opinion, role playing sexual acts and encounters with nude women are dangerous and harmful for several reasons:

1. In my opinion, being another character encourages kids to entertain the idea of doing these things in real life and thus makes it more likely they will actually do these things in real life.
2. In my opinion, this kind of role playing stirs up fleshly appetites for more nudity and more sex, making it more likely kids will pursue other types of pornography or engage in premarital sex with a real female.
3. By increasing the likelihood of teen sex, it is my opinion that role playing games like this make it more likely real female teenagers will be sexually violated and harmed as boys use them to satisfy their own sexual desires.
4. As kids make choices to open themselves up to sexual and nude encounters, I believe they open the door for unclean demonic spirits to come into them. The kids are unknowingly giving demonic spirits permission to put them in bondage to pornography and lust.

Webster’s dictionary defines pornography as “the depiction of erotic behavior intended to cause sexual excitement.” In my opinion, Skyrim fits this description perfectly!

So even if your kids aren’t playing Skyrim, there are many kids who are. America’s kids are under attack by demonic spirits, bombarded with all sorts of demonic schemes which are bringing them into all sorts of bondages, including bondage to pornography. All Christians need to be praying for our country and especially for our kids!
